Emergency Room Doctor Arrested On Three Counts of Sexual Battery On A Minor

Release Number:  11-275

Dr. Brian Webster Cook
DOB: 7/2/61
Address: 2309 1st Street, Indian Rocks Beach

He is employed as the Physician in Charge of Emergency Care at Palms of Pasadena Hospital, and a former Medical Director of Morton Plant Hospital’s emergency medical facility. He also owns two walk-in clinics, called “Statmed Quality Clinics” in Pinellas County.

What:  A Pinellas doctor has been arrested and charged by Sheriff’s Crimes Against Children detectives with three counts of Sexual Battery on a minor in familial custody – meaning the child was not related to the suspect, but was in the suspect’s custodial care.

Where:  The offenses occurred at several locations in Pinellas County.

When:  Arrested Friday night, November 18, 2011

Detectives say Cook did commit acts of sexual battery upon the male victim, a child older than twelve years of age but less than eighteen years old. They say that Cook, known to the victim and his family, was asked to care for the victim during a time when the victim’s mother was unable to care for him. According to detectives, between 2009 and 2011, Cook engaged in sexual activity with the victim on multiple occasions in Pinellas County. Cook was in a position of familial or custodial authority over the victim when these acts occurred. Detectives say that Cook was cooperative when confronted with these allegations and admitted to all of the above sexual activity.

Detectives were first involved in the case Thursday morning, November 17, 2011, after Patrol deputies received the original report. The arrest was made late Friday night, after 10:00 p.m. Florida public records law prohibits the release of the victim’s name, or the identity of the reporting individual.

Detectives believe there may be more victims, and ask that anyone with any information please call the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Crimes Against Children Unit, at 727-582-6200.

The investigation continues.
