What: Detectives are investigating an apparent accidental shooting in Seminole. The adult male victim was taken to Bay Front Hospital where he remains in serious condition with what appears to be life-threatening injuries.

When: Thursday, October 13, 2011 at 1:58 a.m.

How/Why:
On Thursday, October 13, 2011 at 1:58 a.m. Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, Patrol Operations Bureau deputies responded to a report of a shooting at 9391 87th Terrace North in Seminole. When they arrived they discovered the victim, Chaz Ursomanno, 22, unconscious and seriously injured from a single gunshot wound to the head.

Ursomanno was transported to Bay Front Hospital where he remains in serious condition with what appears to be life-threatening injuries. Homicide Unit detectives were called to the scene and took over the investigation.

According to detectives at around 1:58 a.m. Ursomanno was showing his girlfriend, Naomi Ensell, a handgun at their residence in Seminole. She told him to put the gun away, but he claimed it was safe and unloaded. He put the gun to his head and pulled the trigger to demonstrate, and the gun did not fire. Confident it was empty he repeated this again. Unfortunately the gun was loaded and this time it did fire.

The incident is still under investigation, however at this point detectives believe this was a tragic accident.

The investigation continues.
