Deputies “Shop for Santa” To Help Over 450 Children And Their Families Registered With The Sheriff’s “Christmas Sharing Project”

What:  Nearly 100 Pinellas County Sheriff’s uniformed deputies and agency members  will “Shop For Santa”  at the Bay Pines/Tyrone area Target store to assist those families registered with the Sheriff’s Christmas Sharing Project, a program which helps families in need over the holidays.

The shoppers will be spending the money earned at the 18th Annual “Ride & Run With The Stars” event which was held at Ft. DeSoto Park this past Saturday.  Shopping teams will be armed with Christmas “wish-lists” from the children and families being served by the Sheriff’s Christmas Sharing Project. Most lists consist of “basic needs” items like underwear, socks, or a jacket, or “school clothes”. Bicycle requests will be filled by sponsor Bechtel Financial Services, and delivered to families on December 15th.

Volunteer shoppers will arrive around 6:30 a.m.

Shopping starts at 7:00 a.m. and continues until about 9:30 a.m.


Uniformed Pinellas County deputy sheriffs and other agency members will “Shop For Santa”, Thursday, December 8, 2011, from 7:00 a.m. until about 9:30 a.m. at the Bay Pines/Tyrone area Target store, located at 4450 Park Street North, St. Petersburg.

Santa’s Shoppers will be following the Christmas wish-lists submitted by children and families registered with the Sheriff’s Christmas Sharing Project, which assists families in need over the holidays. The families being served were submitted by Sheriff’s Office members, and were screened to determine their level of need.

Funds for the holiday shopping spree were earned from the 18th annual “Ride & Run With the Stars” event which was held Saturday, December 3rd at Ft. DeSoto Park.

Deputies will be delivering many of the packages in person to deserving families in coming days.
