Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) are investigating a fatal crash in Seminole that occurred on Sunday, August 24, 2014 at approximately 6:03 p.m.

According to deputies, the driver of a 1999 Buick was traveling westbound on Bay Pines Blvd. at a high rate of speed. The driver of the Buick attempted to pass a vehicle on the right by driving on the right shoulder and sidewalk which cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The Buick then began to slide sideways, crossing the center median and striking a 2014 Toyota Prius which was traveling eastbound on Bay Pines Blvd. After impacting the Prius, the Buick came to a rest on the wall bordering the Bay Pines VA Hospital.

The driver of the Buick, identified as 21-year-old Jordan A. Schleimer was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the Prius, identified as 47-year-old Roberta L. Cycotte, was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

While speed was a factor, is it unknown at this time if alcohol/drug impairment were also factors in the crash.

Eastbound lanes of Bay Pines Blvd. were closed at 100th Way for several hours during the investigation.

All lanes to Bay Pines Blvd. are now open.

The investigation continues.
