What:
Deputies have arrested an armed suspect -with four outstanding warrants- after he barricaded himself at the Landmark Motel in St. Petersburg. No injuries were reported.

When:
The suspect was arrested at about 10:30 p.m.  on Monday, July 7, 2014.

Where:
The incident occurred at the Landmark Motel located at 1930 4th Street North in St. Petersburg.

Why/How:
Deputies received information that the wanted suspect, identified as 27-year-old Antwaun A. Thompson, was at the Landmark Motel in St. Petersburg. They began conducting surveillance on the suspect with the purpose to serve a total of four warrants. At one point the suspect left the motel and later returned. Upon his return, he entered his room located on the second floor of the motel; and deputies set up a perimeter and continued to conduct surveillance.

According to deputies the suspect was later seen getting on the back window sill of the room. Deputies say it was unclear if he would attempt to flee; and at that point deputies attempted to arrest him. As deputies approached, Thompson quickly retreated inside the motel room. Deputies began to challenge the suspect, who began to barricade himself inside the room using couches, chairs and the bed to block the doors. Deputies say Thompson began to break out windows and through the windows yelled out threats to deputies. He further stated he was not going back to prison. Deputies evacuated the motel.

Deputies were able to subsequently establish phone communication with the suspect, who stated he was armed. Deputies say Thompson later threw the gun out of the window of the motel. Deputies say Thompson’s mother responded to the scene and spoke to him on the phone. Thompson surrendered to deputies without further incident.

Thompson was arrested for the four warrants and the above listed charges. He was transported to the Pinellas County Jail. His booking photo will be available once the booking process is complete.

The weapon, a semi automatic handgun, was recovered.

The investigation continues.
