Members of the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Post 900 recently participated in the 2014 Florida Association of Police Explorers State Competition

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Post 900 recently participated in the 2014 Florida Association of Police Explorers State Competition on June 23-28, 2014 in Crystal River, Florida, competing against 29 other explorer posts.
The state competition event team comprised of Explorer Captain Spencer Shaw, Explorer Lieutenant Kelly Butterfield, Explorer Sergeant Lauren Paschall, Explorer Sergeant Alvin Pinero, Explorer Sergeant Zoe Gambel and Explorer Corporal Luke Baker. They received a 1st place trophy in the Search & Arrest event, 3rd place trophy in the In-Progress event, 4th place trophy in Crisis Intervention, 4th place in the Tie Breaker event, 5th place in Crime Scene and 5th Place in the First Aid event. The event competition team placed in 6 of the 8 separate events.
The Explorer Post 900 Pistol Team was also victorious at the competition and received 1st place overall making them #1 in the state of Florida. The team was comprised of Explorer Captain Spencer Shaw, Explorer Lieutenant Kelley Butterfield, Explorer Sergeant Tyler Bentley, and Explorer Corporal Max Dulski.
Ten members of Explorer Post #900 took the opportunity to compete in other shooting competitions and won the following: Explorer Captain Spencer Shaw took an individual shooting award of 2nd Place in the Expert division. Explorer Corporal Max Dulski took an individual shooting award of 1st Place and Explorer Sergeant Tyler Bentley placed 3rd in the Marksman division. Explorer Captain Spencer Shaw, Explorer Lieutenant Kelley Butterfield and Explorer Corporal Max Dulski were named as the range master’s top 10 overall shooting averages for the year. Success on the pistol range is attributed to the hours of range time provided at the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Range, as well as the instruction and encouragement of Post Advisors.
Members also participated in individual optional events including the Honor Guard competition, the Physical Agility Test (P.A.T.) competition, the Police Mountain Bike competition and the Emergency Vehicle Operations event. Spencer Shaw, Kelley Butterfield, Zoe Gambel and Tyler Bentley received a 4th Place trophy in the Honor Guard competition. Explorer Kelsey Karmele received 3rd place in the P.A.T.
Members of Explorer Post 900 also ran for various board positions in the Florida Association of Police Explorers Youth Board. The following Explorers were elected: Captain Spencer Shaw President, Explorer Kelsey Karmele Central West Representative, and Sgt. Lauren Pachall Secretary.
