Patrol deputies are investigating a crash in which a vehicle drove directly into the front of the WalMart Store in South Pasadena. No injuries were reported. The driver was arrested for DUI.

Deputies responded to the crash at midnight on Thursday, June 26, 2014.

The crash occurred at the WalMart located at 6850 Gulfport Boulevard South in South Pasadena.

According to deputies, the driver, 32-year-old Frank J. Lucero was in the parking lot of the WalMart Store at a stop sign directly facing the front of the store. A witness who was in a vehicle behind Lucero, told deputies they noticed Lucero was not moving. The witness blew the  horn, flashed the  lights and when the vehicle still did not move, - drove around it. The witness then parked. As the witness walked towards the store, they saw Lucero accelerate suddenly and crash directly into the building.

Deputies say the front of Lucero’s vehicle, all the way to the windshield, went into the structure. Lucero stepped out of the vehicle uninjured.

The vehicle crashed into the produce section of the store, causing thousands of dollars in damage to the structure and to several cooler units in the store. No persons in the store were injured.

Deputies conducted a DUI investigation and Lucero was subsequently arrested for DUI.

A wrecker is responding to assist in pulling the vehicle from the structure.

The investigation continues.
