Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) are investigating a motorcycle Vs. Sheriff’s Office transport van crash in Largo.

When:
The crash occurred at about 10:51 p.m. on Saturday, May 24, 2014.

Where:
The crash occurred on Ulmerton Road in the area of 101st Street North in Largo.

Why/How:
Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) are investigating a motorcycle Vs. Sheriff’s Office transport van crash in Largo that occurred at about 10:51 p.m. on Saturday, May 24, 2014.

According to deputies, the driver of a Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office transport van was traveling Eastbound on Ulmerton Road and was stopped at the red traffic light at 101st Street North. As the driver of the van began to accelerate, the driver of a 2011 Harley Davidson, also traveling Eastbound, struck the rear of the van.

The driver of the motorcycle, identified as 55-year-old Daniel Boggs, was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Boggs was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Both the driver and passenger of the transport van were not injured during the crash.

Deputies say alcohol may be a contributing factor in the crash.

All Eastbound lanes of Ulmerton Road, just East of Seminole Blvd. were closed for several hours during this investigation. All lanes have since re-opened.

The investigation continues.
