What:
Detectives assigned to the Economic Crimes Unit have arrested three people in connection to a scheme to defraud case after they embezzled approximately $400,000 from a Clearwater car dealership where they were employed. The three were associated with an off-sight marketing business and funneled money to the company by signing and issuing checks to the company from the car dealership business accounts.

When:
The 3 suspects were arrested on Thursday, March 6, 2014. The investigation began January 14, 2013.

Where:
The 3 suspects were employed through Lokey Automotive which includes Lokey Nissan and Lokey VW located at 27758 US 19 North in Clearwater.

Why/How:
Detectives assigned to the Economic Crimes Unit have arrested three suspects in connection to a scheme to defraud case after they embezzled approximately $400,000 from a Clearwater car dealership where they were employed. The suspects have been identified as 45-year-old James Surrett, 39-year-old Larry Dubose and 51-year-old Patricia Lipka.

According to detectives, between June 1, 2012 and September 30, 2012 the three suspects were employed with Lokey Automotive which includes Lokey Nissan and Lokey VW located at 27758 US 19 North in Clearwater.  During their employment at Lokey Automotive, the three suspects were also associated with an off-sight marketing company.

At Lokey Automotive, James Surrett held the position of General Manager, Larry Dubose was a Sales Manager and Patricia Lipka was a Controller within the Accounting Department. The three used their positions to complete invoices for the third party marketing company. They approved the invoices and signed checks payable to the third party marketing company for their own financial gain. The invoices were created and billed to Lokey Auto for marketing and mailing services that were never rendered.

Arrest warrants were issued for the three suspects on Wednesday, March 5, 2014.  On Thursday, March 6, 2014 James Surrett turned himself in to the Pinellas County Jail and has been charged with Scheme to Defraud. Larry Dubose was arrested on the warrant in Pasco County and has been charged with Scheme to Defraud. Patricia Lipka was arrested on the warrant in Lee County and has been charged with Scheme to Defraud.

The investigation continues.
