What:  MAIT Team investigates vehicle vs pedestrian crash in Redington Beach.

When:  Approximately 8:00pm on 3/5/2014

How/Why:
Deputies with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Major Accident Investigation Team are currently investigating a vehicle versus pedestrian crash that occurred in front of 16333 Gulf Boulevard in Redington Beach.

At approximately 8:00 p.m. on 3/5/2014,  Frederick Costantini was driving southbound on Gulf Blvd when Darrel Johnson attempted to cross the road at 16333 Gulf Blvd from west to east.  It does not appear at this time Johnson was utilizing a crosswalk when he was struck by Costantini’s vehicle in the median lane. 

During the accident Johnson suffered life threatening injuries and is being treated at a local hospital.

Costantini had no signs of impairment and criminal charges are not expected.

The investigation continues.
