Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) are investigating a fatal crash involving a vehicle vs. pedestrian.

Where:
The pedestrian fatality took place in the parking lot of Mediterranean Manor located at 2700 Bayshore Blvd in Dunedin.

When:
The fatality occurred at approximately 8:50 a.m. on Monday, November 25, 2013.

How/Why:
Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) are investigating a pedestrian fatality in Dunedin. The vehicle vs. pedestrian crash took place in the parking lot of Mediterranean Manor located at 2700 Bayshore Blvd in Dunedin at approximately 8:50 a.m. on Monday, November 25, 2013.

According to deputies, the driver of a 1999 Dodge Ram with a dump bed was backing up as 82-year-old Joan Maiocco was walking across the parking lot. The truck struck Maiocco, knocking her to the ground, causing the rear wheels to run her over. Maiocco was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the truck, 62-year-old Vincent Fusari, was not injured during the crash.

This was a low speed crash and it does not appear that alcohol or drugs were related to the incident.

The investigation continues.
