On July 7th, 2013 charged with Aggravated Battery; On August 27th, 2013 charge upgraded to Attempted Second Degree Murder; at this time charges will be amended to murder pending State Attorney’s Office review.

What:
On July 6, 2013 Lanni beat Morrow in a prisoner transport van. Morrow has died.

When:
Morrow passed away at 6:00 a.m. on September 12, 2013.

Where:
He was pronounced deceased at Kindred Hospital in St. Petersburg.

Why/How:
60-year-old Thomas Morrow, who was beaten by 37-year-old Leonard Lanni during their transport to the Pinellas County Jail on July 6, 2013 has died. Morrow was pronounced deceased at 6:00 a.m. on September 12, 2013 at Kindred Hospital in St. Petersburg.

The Medical Examiner’s Office has taken custody of Morrow’s body and an autopsy will be conducted.

Charges against Lanni will be amended to murder pending State Attorney’s Office review.

According to investigators, at about 10:55 p.m. on July 6, 2013, Morrow and Lanni were in custody and being transported to the Pinellas County Jail. Morrow had been taken into protective custody by Treasure Island PD under the Marchman Act and Lanni had been arrested by the Sheriff’s Office for Disorderly Conduct. During transport Lanni battered Morrow. Morrow was transported to Bayfront Medical Center by ground for treatment of life-threatening injuries. He was later transferred to Kindred Hospital where he died this morning.

Lanni is being held in the Pinellas County Jail.

The criminal investigation continues as well as the Sheriff’s Office review of the incident.
