When:  Frehe was initially reported missing by Nailos at approximately 4:45 a.m .

How/Why:

After conducting a search and rescue operation near the Dunedin Causeway this morning, Pinellas County Deputies are alerted to several vehicle and vessel burglaries in the immediate area.

As the investigation unfolded, it was discovered the missing swimmer (Frehe) and her companion (Nailos) were the suspects in the burglaries.

Deputies received the initial call from Nailos this morning at approximately 4:45 a.m. that his girlfriend was missing somewhere in the water just off the Dunedin Causeway.  When deputies arrived on scene, Nailos informed them he had been swimming in the water with Frehe and at some point lost sight of her.  Frantic she may be in distress, Nailos called for emergency personnel to respond to the scene.

As efforts to locate Frehe were underway, a deputy in the area spotted Frehe’s vehicle driving from the scene.  The deputy conducted a traffic stop and discovered Frehe as the driver.

While talking with Frehe and verifying her well-being, multiple reports of burglarized vehicles in the immediate area began coming into the Sheriff’s Office Communications Center.

After conducting further interviews with both parties it was discovered they had broken into a boat at 2671 St. Joseph’s Dr. East.  While on the boat they stole various items to include food and alcohol.

After burglarizing the vessel, they both began to swim back to shore.  This is when Nailos lost sight of Frehe and eventually reported her as missing and possibly in distress in the water.

Both have admitted to the vessel burglary and are possibly related the several vehicle burglaries nearby.  Deputies are awaiting forensic results for additional charges.

 The investigation continues.
