Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) are investigating a crash involving a vehicle vs. pedestrian.

The incident took place on Gulf Blvd. and 8th Avenue in Indian Rocks Beach.

The incident  occurred at approximately 9:01 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24, 2013.

Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) are investigating a crash involving a vehicle vs. pedestrian in Indian Rocks Beach.

The vehicle vs. pedestrian crash took place on Gulf Blvd. and 8th Avenue at approximately 9:01 p.m. on Wednesday July 24, 2013.

According to deputies, a pedestrian was crossing Gulf Blvd near 8th Avenue when he was struck by a 2008 Volvo C70 that was traveling northbound. There are no crosswalks in the area where the incident occurred.

The pedestrian, identified as 66-year-old George Strocco, was transported via Bayflite to a local hospital, with life threatening injuries.

The driver and the passengers of the Volvo were not injured.

Northbound lanes of Gulf Blvd. were closed for approximately 3 hours and have since re-opened.

It is unknown at this time if alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The investigation continues.
