Detectives are investigating a homicide that occurred at the Pinellas County Jail located at 14400 49th Street North, Clearwater.

Detention deputies responded to the call at approximately 12:58 a.m. on Sunday, July 21, 2013.

The homicide occurred at the Pinellas County Jail located at 14400 49th Street North, Clearwater.

At approximately 12:58 a.m. on Sunday, July 21, 2013, Pinellas County Detention Deputies responded to a call of a man down in the South Division of the Pinellas County Jail. Upon arrival, deputies located the victim unconscious on the floor of his cell. The victim, identified as 48-year-old Kelly Damon Harding, was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

According to detectives assigned to the Robbery/Homicide unit, the emergency room physician found wet toilet paper down Harding’s throat and his injuries were consistent with strangulation.

Based on interviews and statements made by the suspect to other inmates, detectives determined the suspect to be Harding’s cellmate. The suspect has been identified as 28-year-old Scott Alexander Greenberg.

Greenberg has been charged with First Degree Murder and remains in a single isolation cell at the Pinellas County Jail.

The investigation continues.
