When:

How/Why:
Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) are investigating a Ford Explorer vs. a marked patrol car crash in Safety Harbor.

At approximately 12:37 a.m. this morning, Deputy Nicholas Forgione was driving his marked patrol car northbound on 4th Avenue North, responding to an emergency call for service. Deputy Forgione activated his emergency lights prior to approaching the intersection of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street and continued driving through the intersection.

As Deputy Forgione drove through the intersection, the front passenger side of his marked cruiser struck the front driver side of the Ford Explorer that was traveling westbound on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street.

The driver of the Ford Explorer, 18-year-old Jade Palanjay, was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The three passengers of the Ford Explorer and Deputy Forgione were not injured in the crash.

Neither alcohol nor drugs appear to be a factor in the crash.
