Deputies have arrested Terry Lamar James for Attempted Murder on a Law Enforcement  Officer after the suspect fired shots upon his encounter with a Largo Police Officer.

James was being sought by Largo Police Department in connection with two armed home invasions. (For details of this case, contact Largo PD.) During the evening hours of March 22, 2013 Largo Police requested the Sheriff’s Office assistance in apprehending the suspect at his residence. The suspect fled the residence, shots were fired and the Sheriff’s Office began investigating an officer involved shooting.

The suspect was arrested on March 22, 2013.

The suspect was arrested in Pinellas Park.

Following the overnight incident, detectives began trying to locate the suspect. Through their investigation they received a tip on the possible whereabouts of 19-year-old Terry Lamar James. The investigation lead deputies to conduct surveillance at the Suburban Lodge Motel on Ulmerton Road. A suspicious vehicle arrived at the location and deputies began to conduct surveillance on the vehicle and followed it.

The vehicle eventually pulled into the parking lot of Sacred Heart Catholic Church on 82nd Avenue and 46th Street in Pinellas Park. The suspect and two other people in the vehicle realized that they were being watched by deputies and exited the car. James ran from the scene and  into a residential neighborhood. A foot pursuit ensued and deputies apprehended the suspect a short distance away.

Detectives say James began inciting them to shoot him, at which point deputies used an Electronic Contol Device in order to subdue the suspect. He was taken into custody without further incident.

The two other people in the vehicle with James, a male and a female, were interviewed. There were no additional arrests.

The gun used in the officer involved shooting was recovered.

The investigation continues.
