Arrested for three-counts sex battery upon children under 12; and one count lewd and lascivious molestation on a child under 12
Victims are four males under the age of twelve, who were known to the suspect. Per Fl Statute 119.071(2)(h)1 no further information will be relesed that will tend to identify the victims.
Detectives assigned to the Crimes Against Children Unit have arrested a man for sexually battering and molesting children under the age of 12.
The suspect was arrested at about 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 22, 2013.
The suspect was arrested in Clearwater.
According to detectives, one of the victims disclosed to his mother that he had been sexually battered by the suspect, identified as 42-year-old William E. Roberts – from the time he was 6 to age 16; and that he had concerns over the safety of other children who were also in contact with the suspect.
The woman confronted each of the other children independently and each said they had been sexually battered by the suspect. She reported the crime to the Sheriff’s Office on February the 16th, 2013 and the Crimes Against Children Unit began investigating the allegations.
Through their investigation detectives determined that a total of four children had been sexually battered or molested on an ongoing basis.
Detectives received information that Roberts, who is a truck driver, would be returning to the area on February 21, 2013 and arrested him in Clearwater with the assistance of the Sheriff’s Violent Crimes Task Force. Roberts was arrested for three-counts sex battery upon children under 12; and one count lewd and lascivious molestation on a child under 12; and was transported to the Pinellas County Jail.
