What:  There was an unintentional discharge of a firearm at the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Firing Range today involving a US Marshal employee.

When:  The incident occurred at approximately 9:00 a.m. today (2/6/13).

How/Why:  

There was an unintentional discharge of a firearm at the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Firing Range today involving a US Marshal employee.

At approximately 9:00 a.m. this morning, members of the US Marshals were utilizing the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Firing Range for various shooting exercises.  At one point during the drills, a US Marshal employee suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the upper leg.

The US Marshal employee was tended to at the scene by responding medical personnel, then eventually transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

We are not releasing the name of the individual involved due to their current work assignment with the US Marshals.
