Detectives assigned to the Robbery/Homicide Unit have arrested a suspect for attempted murder after he shot a victim following a verbal altercation. The suspect, himself, also  sustained a gunshot wound to the hand during the shooting.

Deputies responded to the shooting at about 10:04 a.m. on Friday, December 21, 2012.

The shooting occurred at the Handy Corner store located at 2325 119th Street North in unincorporated Largo.

According to detectives, the suspect, identified as 18-year-old Deonte J. Williams and the victim,  22-year-old Mario Goshay ran into each other inside the Handy Corner store. The two became engaged in a verbal altercation, which began to escalate. Deputies say the two then exited the store and continued the altercation outside at which point a shot was fired and Williams fled the scene.

Goshay sustained a gunshot wound to the shoulder area and was transported to Bayfront Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

A 911-hang up call was later received regarding a second victim in the shooting. The call came from a home located at 12078 134th Place North in Largo. When deputies arrived at the house they found Williams hiding in the residence with an injury to his left hand. At that time, Williams also claimed to be the victim of the shooting. Williams was also transported to Bayfront Medical for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Through their investigation, detectives were able to determine that Williams, while in the process of shooting and injuring Goshay,  also wounded himself. Williams was arrested for attempted murder.

The nature of the verbal altercation between the suspect and the victim remains under investigation.

A photo of the suspect will be available once the booking process is complete.

The investigation continues.
