When:  12/20/12 at approximately 3:00 p.m.

How/Why:

Deputies from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office apprehended a suspect wanted for multiple Armed Robberies today.

Pinellas Deputies along with the Clearwater Police Department, Pinellas Park Police Department and the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office had been searching for Joseph Young for the past several days for his involvement in recent Armed Robberies at local pharmacies.

Deputies came across Young in the City of Safety Harbor this afternoon around 3:00 p.m.  As deputies began to follow Young he sped away and a pursuit ensued.  The pursuit went a short distance until ending on US19, near Enterprise Road.  After losing control of his stolen vehicle and crashing off the side of the road, Young attempted to flee on foot, but was apprehended shortly after.

A BB gun was located in the vehicle, along with numerous narcotic pills which by Young’s own admission had been stolen from the pharmacies in the previous Armed Robberies.

After being questioned by deputies, Young was transported to the Pinellas County jail and charged with the following:

Aggravated Fleeing/Eluding
Grand Theft Auto
Armed Robbery (2 counts)
Possession Controlled Substance
Aggravated Assault
False Imprisonment
Battery
Leaving Scene of Crash
