12-297 Deputies Conduct Directed Patrol At Elementary School In The Sheriff’s Office Jurisdiction

Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office
Patrol Operations Bureau
Community Policing Deputies

Deputies are providing directed patrols at 27 elementary schools in the Sheriff’s Office jurisdiction.

The directed patrols began on Monday, December 17, 2012 and will run the entire week through Friday, December 21, 2012.

The directed patrols are at 15 elementary schools in the north part of the county and 12 in central and south county.

Every morning for the week of December 17th through the 21st, a deputy will be assigned to provide a patrol detail at each of the elementary schools in the Sheriff’s Office jurisdiction. A deputy will be assigned to each school during the morning drop-off times. In addition, extra patrols will be available throughout the day in the area surrounding the schools. The added police presence is intended to provide security and give some level of peace of mind to parents and students in light of last week’s school shooting in Connecticut.

Deputies have also been in contact with school administrators and offered to be available to answer any security or crime prevention related questions or concerns.

We will evaluate any additional directed patrols as needed going forward.

When To Call

In Florida, simply dialing 9-1-1 in an emergency connects you to EMS, law enforcement, and the fire rescue.

The 9-1-1 system is for emergencies only – serious vehicle crashes, critical medical situations, crimes in progress, or fire.

Do not call 9-1-1 for non emergency transportation.

If you are unsure if your situation is a true emergency, officials recommend that you let the call taker determine if you need emergency help.
