Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) are investigating a vehicle vs pedestrian crash that left a woman dead.

The crash occurred at about 10:50 a.m. on Monday, December 17, 2012.

The crash occurred at the intersection of Pasadena Avenue South and Majestic Way in South Pasadena.

According to investigators, the pedestrian identified as 83-year-old Margherita Trupiano, was crossing Pasadena Avenue westbound at the crosswalk at Majestic Way. (This is a t-intersection.)

The Ford Econo-Line van being driven by 54-year Emile Daniel, was traveling north on Pasadena Avenue in the curb lane.

Deputies say Trupiano had just taken a couple of steps off the curb and into the crosswalk, when she was struck by the vehicle.

Trupiano was transported to  Bayfront Medical Center by ambulance for treatment of life-threatening injuries. She was pronounced dead at 1:06 p.m. at the hospital.

Neither alcohol nor speed appear to be a factor in this case.

The investigation continues.
