Nearly 100 Pinellas County uniformed Sheriff’s Deputies and agency members will “Shop For Santa” to assist families registered with the Sheriff’s Christmas Sharing Project, a program which helps families in need over the holidays.

Shoppers will be spending the money earned at the 19th Annual “Ride & Run With the Stars” event which was held at Fort DeSoto Park on Saturday, December 1, 2012. That amount is about $30,000.

Bicycle requests will be filled by sponsor Bechtel Financial Services, and will be delivered to families on a date soon to be announced.

Shopping will begin at 7:00 a.m. and continues until about 9:30 a.m.on Thursday, December 6, 2012. Volunteer shoppers will arrive around 6:30 a.m..

“Shop for Santa” will be held at the Target located at 4450 Park Street North in St. Petersburg.

Uniformed Pinellas County deputies and other agency members “armed” with Christmas “wish lists” from children and families being served by the Sheriff’s Christmas Sharing Project will “Shop for Santa” starting at 7:00 a.m. on December 6th at the Bay Pines/Tyrone area Target store.

Most lists consist of “basic needs:” items like underwear, socks, a jacket or school clothes. Bicycle requests will be filled by sponsor Bechtel Financial Services, and will be delivered to families on a date to be announced.

Santa’s shoppers will be following the Christmas wish lists submitted by the children and families registered with the Project, which assists families in need over the holiday season. The families being served were submitted by Sheriff’s Office members, and were screened to determine their level of need.

Funds for the holiday shopping spree, about $30,000, were earned from this year’s “Ride & Run With the Stars” event held this past Saturday at Ft. DeSoto Park.

Deputies will be delivering many of the packages in person to deserving families in the coming days.
