The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office is set to host three educational seminars at three different Pinellas County Schools. The course entitled “Social Media & Your Kids” is designed to teach parents how to keep up with social media. The class will help adults get a handle on the various social media platforms, teach parents how to monitor their kid’s online activity and help keep them safe from online trouble.
The events are scheduled as follows:
November 5, 2013 at 7:30 p.m.
Countryside High School
3000 State Road 580, Clearwater
November 11, 2013 at 7:30 p.m.
Morgan Fitzgerald Middle School
6410 118th Avenue North, Largo
November 18, 2013 at 7:30 p.m.
Boca Ciega High School
924 58th Street South, Gulfport
Parents are invited to attend anyone of the above listed sessions to learn more about how to keep their kids safe from the dangers of social media, including bullying.
The class will help parents become familiar with sites and mobile apps popular with the kids; and remind parents why it is important to pay close attention. The session is also designed to provide parents with tips on how to engage their kids in conversation about social media; and on how to monitor their on-line activity.
“With today’s technology, - harmful words, photos and videos can literally last a lifetime -following a child from the playground to the work place. Whether you are worried about bullying, internet safety, or just need a refresher on popular applications that are being misused, I encourage parents to attend one of our “Social Media & Your Kids” educational sessions scheduled throughout the county,” said Sheriff Bob Gualtieri.
