Arrested for six-counts capital sexual battery on child under 12.

The victims are all girls who were under the age of 12 at the time the crime was committed. Per Florida Statute 119.071(2)(h)1 no further information will be released that would tend to identify the victims. The girls were all known to the suspect and were in his care when the crimes were was committed.

Deputies have arrested a Dunedin man for capital sexual battery on four victims under the age of 12. The cases came to light after two girls disclosed that they had been victims.

The suspect was arrested at about 5:50 p.m. on Monday, September 17, 2012.

The suspect was arrested at his residence located at 480 Lexington Street in Dunedin.

According to detectives assigned to the Crimes Against Children Unit, two of the victims disclosed to one of the victims’  aunt, that the suspect, identified as 39-year-old Darrell Lawson had engaged both of them in sexual activity from the time they were six years old to nine years-old. (The girls are now 11 and 12 years old.) The crime was reported to the Sheriff’s Office on August 7, 2012 and detectives began investigating the case.

During the course of the investigation, detectives discovered two additional victims. Detective say Lawson engaged in sex with one of the victims between 1995 and 1996, when she was 10 year old; and the other, from 2004 to 2007  when she was between the ages of 11 and 14.

Detectives obtained an arrest warrant and arrested Lawson on September 17, 2012 at his residence without further incident. He was subsequently transported to the Pinellas County Jail.

The investigation continues.
