A store employee and customer were able to foil a burglary at a Palm Harbor business and hold down the suspect until deputies arrived on scene. The suspect was arrested for burglary/battery. The suspect was not armed.

The crime occurred at about 1:15 p.m. on Monday, September 10, 2012.

The crime occurred at Plato’s Closet located at 33211 US 19 North in Palm Harbor.

According to deputies, the suspect entered the store and headed towards the back of the business. He then entered into an employee backroom. A store employee, 31-year-old Kayli Gibbons saw the backroom door close and knew something was not right. She proceeded into the room and found the suspect, later identified as 59-year-old George E. Nunnally, seated at a desk and attempting to break into the store safe.

Gibbons proceeded to block the door to prevent the suspect from leaving. Nunnally however, in an effort to get away, became involved in a physical altercation with Gibbons, causing her some minor injuries.

Gibbons got out into the main store and then ran out the front door of the business. A customer, identified as 22-year-old Dominick Deangelin, saw what was happening and ran after the suspect. He caught up with him, clasped him in a bear hug, brought him back into the business and held him down on the ground until deputies arrived.

Deputies arrested Nunnally for burglary/battery. He would be transported to a local hospital for clearance prior to transport to the Pinellas County Jail.

Gibbons was treated on scene for her minor injuries by Palm Harbor Fire Rescue.

Deangelin was not injured.

The investigation continues.
