What: Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri held a news briefing today to announce a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of a murder suspect and career criminal, identified as Eddie Jonathan Todd Walker. A first degree murder warrant was signed last Thursday, August 9th, based upon information provided by witnesses regarding the April 5th shooting death of Terrance Benar Thomas. Detectives say Thomas and Walker became involved in a dispute over the quality of cocaine Thomas had sold Walker. The dispute escalated and Walker shot Thomas in the head, leaving him in the street near 703 Patterson Street, Largo.
Deputies responded to the shooting at about 10:53 p.m. on Thursday, April 5, 2012.
The shooting occurred at 703 Patterson Street in unincorporated Largo.
Walker is described as a black male, 6 feet tall, 200 pounds – a short close haircut, and a short beard. Sheriff Gualtieri said he should be considered armed and dangerous. The Sheriff also advised that detectives had received tips around August 3rd identifying Walker as the murder suspect. Based on those tips and additional information, the warrant was issued for his arrest on Thursday August 9th. Detectives learned Walker ‘s location Thursday night, a convenience store in the Ridgecrest area, but attempts to arrest him failed as he was able to flee on foot and break the perimeter deputies had set.
Sheriff Gualtieri said detectives had been in touch with Walker’s lawyer, who advised that Walker said he would turn himself in Saturday or Sunday. When Walker failed to so, the Sheriff said, “detectives decided to go forward with the reward offer in order to get Walker off the street. Someone knows where he is and can help us.”
The Sheriff added, “anyone who knows the whereabouts of Eddie Walker is encouraged to do the right thing and contact us. The reward is for information leading to the arrest of Walker. Citizens are encouraged to call 727-582-TIPS (8477) with their information.”
The reward money will be taken from drug forfeiture funds. Sheriff Gualtieri advised that using drug dealers’ money as a reward to catch a drug dealer and murder suspect is appropriate.
