12-180 Man Escapes Uninjured From Helicopter Crash

What:  A two-seater helicopter crashed just before 7:00 p.m. Tuesday night, July 24th, as the pilot/owner tried to move it to another location on his property.

When:  Patrol deputies responded to the call at about 6:54 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2012.

Where: The crash scene is 4550 35th Street North – which is where the helicopter was also stored.

Why/How:  Wayne Parker keeps his Hughes 300 helicopter at his business address, 4550 35th Street North. The business is identified as A1 Key & Safe.

According to responding Pinellas sheriff’s deputies and firefighters, Parker had started the helicopter to move it by hovering to another location on the property when he reportedly lost a tail rotor and went into a spin – crashing into a fence.

Parker escaped without serious injuries and was not transported.

The FAA and the NTSB have been notified and will conduct an investigation.

Fire officials say no fuel was spilled, and there was no fire at the crash scene.
