Arrested for capital sexual battery
The victim is a 9 year-old female who is known to the suspect. Per Florida Statute 119.071(2)(h)1 no further information will be released that would tend to identify the victim.
Detectives assigned to the Crimes Against Children Unit have arrested a Clearwater man for capital sexual battery on a 9-year-old female victim. Detectives believe there may be other victims and are asking that anyone with information that may assist them in this case contact the Sheriff’s Office. The suspects brother, Marsanti Martinez, was extradited from Connecticut to Pinellas County in early June to face two counts of capital sexual battery on two victims (brothers) under the age of 12 (see Press Release #12-138 for details on this case).
The suspect was arrested on Friday, June 29, 2012 and is being held at the Pinellas County Jail.
The crime occured between September and November 2011.
The suspect was arrested at the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Sheriff’s Administration Building after he voluntarily responded for an interview.
The crime occurred in unincorporated Clearwater.
During the course of the investigation referencing the arrest and extradition of Marsanti Martinez (Release #12-138), detectives received information and identified another possible victim – a 9 year-old female.
Detectives interviewed the alleged victim. During the interview the victim revealed that her younger sister had been sexually battered by Marsanti Martinez; and that she had been sexually battered by Marsanti Martinez’ brother, 26-year-old Omartin Martinez. The crime occurred on at least five occasions between September and November 2011. Martinez was caring for the victim when the crime occurred.
On June 29, 2012, Omartin Martinez voluntarily responded to the Sheriff’s Office for an interview. He admitted to the crime and was subsequently arrested for capital sexual battery and transported to the Pinellas County Jail.
The investigation continues.
Detectives believe there may be additional victims for both of these suspects, as both had access to various children.
