The Sheriff’s Office Major Accident Team is investigating a Sheriff’s Office transport van vs. bicycle crash.

The crash occurred at about 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 14, 2012.

The crash occurred at 7695 Ulmerton Road in Largo.

Deputy Gary Breest was driving a 2009 Sheriff’s Office Transport Van. According to investigators, Deputy Breest was pulling out of a parking lot at 7695 Ulmerton Road in Largo as 25-year-old Daniel Drabicki was riding his bicycle eastbound on the sidewalk of Ulmerton Road.

As Deputy Breest pulled out of the lot onto Ulmerton Road, Drabicki rode his bicycle into the front bumper of the transport van.

According to deputies, Drabicki initially stated he did not have time to wait to do a police report and rode off from the scene. Deputy Breest followed Drabicki and stopped him several blocks away.

After a patrol deputy arrived on scene to conduct the investigation, Drabicki complained of back and neck pains. Drabicki was transported by ambulance to Largo Medical for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
