What:
The Sheriff’s Office Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating a deputy involved crash with minor injuries.

When:
Deputies responded to the crash at about 9:33 p.m. on Sunday June 10, 2012.

Where:
The crash occurred at the intersection of Alderman and Belcher Roads in Palm Harbor.

Why/How:
According to investigators, Deputy Jason Howard was eastbound on the left turn lane of Alderman Road at Belcher Road, when he observed a traffic violation. Deputy Howard had a red light. He activated emergency lights and siren and looked to clear the intersection. As the deputy made the left turn onto Belcher Road, he was struck by 81-year-old Charles Haenig who was driving a Chrysler 200 southbound in the curb lane of Belcher Road. Deputy Howard’s cruiser was struck on the driver’s side rear door.

Deputy Howard was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Haenig sustained minor bumps and bruises.

The investigation continues.
