Where:
The scholarship awards will be presented at the Dunedin High School Auditorium located at 1651 Pinehurst Road in Dunedin.

Why/How:
Four Dunedin High School Seniors are set to receive scholarship awards during a presentation scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at the Dunedin High School Auditorium.

The $2500 in scholarships funds were made possible through the generous donations of various local businesses; and through the work and partnerships established by the Dunedin SROs with local businesses.

A total of four scholarships will be awarded during the ceremony; 3 for $500 and 1 for $1000.

The application process for the scholarship was open to Dunedin High Seniors who have been accepted to a college/university. The process was sponsored by the Dunedin High School S.A.D.D. (Students Against Destructive Decisions) Club. Interested students were required to submit an essay describing how they could keep from making destructive decisions in their lives. The essays were presented anonymously to a panel, who rated and selected the best submissions. The panel also weighed in other merits to include the student’s academic performance, discipline, attendance and financial need.

The $1000 scholarship will be awarded to the top essay.

This is the second year in a row that the Sheriff’s Office has spearheaded efforts to obtain scholarship award funding- through the S.A.D.D. Club by involving local businesses - for Dunedin High School students. Last year two $500 scholarships were awarded.

The names of the award recipients are being withheld until after the ceremony.
