12-106 Structure Fire At The Mease Medical Arts Building In Safety Harbor Causes Over A Million Dollars In Damage

What:  Deputies responded to a structure fire early this morning at the Mease Medical Arts building in Safety Harbor.  It was later determined that the fire was caused by an electrical malfunction and not suspicious activity.  There are no reported injuries at this time.

When:  Deputies responded to the scene at approximately 4:50 a.m. today.

 

How/Why: 

Deputies responded to a structure fire early this morning at the Mease Medical Arts building in Safety Harbor.  It was later determined that the fire was caused by an electrical malfunction and not suspicious activity.

 Deputies arrived to a two alarm fire at approximately 5:00 a.m.  Smoke was seen coming from the second floor.  With the assistance of fire rescue personnel, deputies were able to secure the scene and determine nobody had been injured.

 It is reported that the fire caused over one million dollars in damage.

 Upon completion of the investigation, it was determined that the fire was caused by an electrical malfunction in a lighting fixture, in a second story bathroom.  No suspicious activity was noted.

 Parts of the building will be closed for the foreseeable future while officials assess the damage.
