What:  Vasquezpadilla has been transported from Mississippi to the Pinellas County Jail to stand trial for the 2006 shooting death of Marcos Antonio Diaz. The body of Diaz was found in the front seat of a car located near the Oldsmar city boat ramp on May 30, 2006.

Early on detectives believed the shooting was drug related. Vasquezpadilla was eventually established as a suspect through continuous witness interviews over the years. Vasquezpadilla was indicted on the First Degree Murder charge in September 2011. He was transported to Pinellas County this week to stand trial.

Where:  The body of the victim was found in a car located near the Oldsmar City boat ramp at National Orange Avenue and Patty Drive.

When:  The homicide occurred on May 30, 2006.


Two men fishing near the Oldsmar city boat ramp found the body of Marcos Antonio Diaz in a car parked near the boat ramp, just before 8:30 a.m., May 30, 2006.

During the course of the investigation, detectives learned the shooting death may be related to a drug deal. Over the years, through a series of interviews and other investigative work, detectives were able to establish Hector Vasquezpadilla as a suspect in the shooting. Vasquezpadilla was indicted in September 2011.

He was transported to Pinellas County this week from a federal prison in Mississippi where he has been serving time on unrelated federal weapons charges out of Tampa.
