Victim:
4 month old male infant in their care – will not be identified.

What:  Thursday afternoon, April 12th, Sheriff’s Crimes Against Children detectives arrested and charged Avila and Lockwood with a total of three counts of Aggravated Child Abuse. The victim is a 4 month old infant in their care. It is alleged the two caused injuries to the child over a period of at least two weeks which resulted in numerous fractures to the child’s rib cage and legs. Upon questioning by detectives, the two admitted to this treatment of the child.

Where:  The injuries occurred in Pinellas County.

When:  The injuries to the child occurred over a period of two weeks.

How/Why: 

Lockwood and Avila admitted to detectives that the injuries came about as a result of frustration that the child was crying.

The Sheriff’s Child Protection Investigation Division also participated in this investigation.

The child has been placed in the care of family members outside of Pinellas County.
