What:
Detectives assigned to the Robbery Homicide Unit have arrested a suspect for attempted murder in the first degree and robbery after he beat the victim with a claw hammer and took drugs and cash from his home.

When:
The suspect was arrested on the evening of April 4, 2012.

The crime occurred on February 24th, 2012.

Where:
The crime occurred in the victim’s residence located at 5104 67th Way North in St. Petersburg.

Why/How:
On February 24th, 2012, deputies were called to 5104 67th Way in St. Peterburg in reference to an injured male. A woman acquainted with the victim found 58-year-old William Bennett Roberts inside his mobile home with serious injuries. The victim told his friend he had been beaten.

The victim was transported to Bayfront Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Detectives assigned to the Robbery/Homicide Unit responded to the scene and and through their investigation, were able to identify the suspect as 50-year-old Donald Stuart Hall of Lake City.

According to investigators, Hall admitted to beating Roberts with a claw hammer.

The weapon was recovered in the home.

Hall was arrested on the evening of April 5, 2012 for attempted murder and  robbery; and transported to Pinellas County Jail without further incident. Hall was also faces unrelated drug charges.
