Investigative Operations Bureau
-Crimes Against Children Unit

Axmed G. Castillo
DOB: 08/24/1967
Address: 2065 San Sebastian Way, N., Clearwater
Arrested for sex battery on a child

The victim is a female who was 9 year of age at the time the crime was committed. She is now 14 year old. The suspect and the victim are known to each other. Per FL Statute 119.071(2)h1, no further information will be released that would tend to identify the victim.

What: Detectives assigned to the Crimes Against Children Unit have arrested a man for sexual battery on a girl. The victim was 9 years-old at the time the crime was committed.

Where: The crime occurred in a private residence in Clearwater.

When: The suspect was arrested on March 21, 2012.

During the course of a separate investigation, involving a lewd and lascivious molestation on a minor, -detectives assigned to the Crimes Against Children Unit learned that the suspect in that case had been arrested in 2008 by Clearwater Police Department for sexual performance by a child. Images of child pornography were found on that suspect’s computer.

Upon reviewing the images in the Clearwater case, detectives were able to identify a previously unidentified victim. Through interviews with the victim and and her mother – they determined that the girl who is now 14 year-old, had been sexually battered and photographed by 44-year-old Axmed Castillo when she was 9-year-old.

Detectives say Castillo admitted to the crime.

The victim was known to Castillo and was in his care at the time the crime was committed.

He was arrested and booked into the Pinellas County Jail.

Detectives say Castillo has not at this time been linked to the lewd and lascivious battery case.

The investigation continues.
