12-057 Suspicious Fire Damages Four Boats In Madeira Beach Marina

What:  Pinellas Sheriff’s Arson detectives are investigating a suspicious fire which consumed one boat and heavily damaged three others at a Madeira Beach marina.

Where:  The boat fire occurred at the Madeira Docks Marina, located in the 13200 block of Gulf Blvd. in Madeira Beach.

When:  Deputies responded to the boat fire call at around 6:00 a.m., Wednesday morning, March 21, 2012.


Four boats were engulfed in flames. The boat where the fire started was burned down to the water line. Three others were heavily damaged. One of the boats was occupied, and the male live-aboard witness was able to escape his boat before it was destroyed.

Marina officials estimate that each boat ranges in price or replacement value from $100,000 to $175,000, for a total in estimated damage of well over $500,000.

The boat where the fire originated is a 38 foot 1991 Mediterranean, valued between $85,000 and $100,000.

Damage to the dock is estimated to be around $35,000.

No one was injured.

Witnesses told detectives that a white pick-up truck was observed leaving the Marina parking lot just after the boat fire erupted. Detectives are interviewing witnesses, and request that anyone having any information about the fire to please call the Arson & Auto Theft Unit at 582-6200.

The investigation continues.
