-Crimes Against Children Unit
Patrol Operations Bureau

Michael Paul Bacon (Arrested)
DOB: 10/01/1970
Address: 2715 47th Avenue North, St Petersburg
Arrested for false imprisonment

Victim is a female who was 17 years of age at the time the crime was committed.

What:  Detectives assigned to the Crimes Against Children Unit have arrested a St. Petersburg man for the false imprisonment of a 17 year old girl. The suspect is a registered sexual predator.

Where:  The crime occurred on the street at 2911 47th Avenue North in St. Petersburg.

When:  The suspect was arrested on Monday, March 19, 2012.

The crime occurred on January 21, 2012.

How/Why:

Detectives say the victim, a 17 year old girl, was walking a dog in the area of 2911 47th Avenue North in St. Petersburg when she saw a man, now identified as 41-year-old Michael Paul Bacon, walking towards her. She became uncomfortable and began walking in the opposite direction.

According to detectives, Bacon began running towards her, grabbed her by the hair, spun her around and knocked her to the ground, at which point he knelt on top of her, preventing her from getting up.

Detectives say the victim made fists in an attempt to fight the suspect off. At that point, the dog who had gotten loose from her when she was knocked to the ground, came running towards them. The suspect, apparently fearful that the dog was going to attack got up off the girl and she was able to run away.

The dog is a medium sized mixed breed.

The victim was able to provide a good description of the suspect to deputies to include information that the suspect had a large fleshy-type hearing aid in his left ear. She was also able to assist with a description for the creation of a composite sketch of the suspect. A bulletin was issued.

On Saturday, March 17th, patrol deputies came into contact with Bacon and realized he matched the description and composite sketch.

The suspect voluntarily came to the Sheriff’s Administration Building on Monday, March 19, 2012 for an interview - at  which time he admitted to the contact with the victim and knocking her to the ground. Bacon provided his statements to detectives through an American Sign Language interpreter as he is hearing impaired.

Bacon was subsequently arrested for False Imprisonment and has been booked into the Pinellas County Jail.

The investigation continues.
