12-043: Deputies Identify Body Retrieved From Intercoastal

Pinellas Sheriff’s deputies and Fire Rescue paramedics responded to a report early Sunday morning, march 4, 2012, of a man walking off the boardwalk/dock area behind the Holiday Inn Harbourside Hotel and Marina on Indian Rocks Beach.

The location is 401 Second Street -Indian Rocks Beach.

Deputies have identified the man as Luis G. Serrano, DOB 1/28/76.

Serrano lived in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and was in the Army stationed at Fort Carson at Fort Carson, Colorado. Deputies say Serrano was in the Bay Area for a week of training. No information is available to describe the training.

At about 5:30 a.m., Sunday, March 4th, a witness called 911 after observing a man, who was described as intoxicated, reportedly walking down the dock area behind the hotel. As the man approached a turn in the dock, he instead continued walking straight ahead and walked off the dock into the water.

Deputies say a witness who had observed the man from the hotel window, called 911 and went to assist, but the man was soon unresponsive. Fire Rescue responders were able to retrieve the man’s body just 6:00 a.m.

Serrano had several ID’s on his person, and family was found and notified in Colorado Springs late Sunday afternoon.

The investigation continues.
