When: The incident occurred in early April 2009, however the investigation began Friday November 6, 2009.
How/Why: Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office detectives with the Crimes Against Children Unit arrested an Indian Rocks Beach man after an investigation that began Friday November 6, 2009. The investigation began when the 7-year-old victim’s mother contacted the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office about statements the victim had made to her regarding the suspect.
Detectives reported the suspect, Matthew Sackett, 31, a self-employed landscaper, gained access to the victim during a sleep over at his residence in early April. The detectives confronted the suspect with the information the victim provided about the incident and he subsequently confessed. He is being held in the Pinellas County Jail on one count Capital Sexual Battery, and one count Lewd Lascivious & Molestation on a Child Under 12.
