A Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office detention deputy assigned to the Detention and Corrections Bureau has been arrested for doctor shopping, obtaining controlled substance by fraud, and trafficking in a controlled substance. Detectives say 42-year-old Michael S. Broman was arrested at 11:30 am on Tuesday, November 3, 2009 while he was on duty as a detention deputy at the Pinellas County Jail located at 14400 49th Street North in Clearwater.
According to detectives, the investigation began in late August 2009 after information was received alleging suspicious prescription medication activity involving Broman. Detectives say an investigation revealed that Broman was requesting and receiving treatment from more than one doctor with the intent to obtain prescription medication (Hydrocodone / Oxycodone) that he was not entitled to. He was also intentionally presenting a fraudulent prescription, in his own name, authorized by a doctor, to pharmacists. The investigation continues.
Broman is a sworn member of the Sheriff’s Office and he is assigned to the Detention and Corrections Bureau at the Pinellas County Jail. Per agency policy investigators from the Administrative Investigations Division were notified of the arrest and Broman has been placed on administrative leave with pay pending the completion of an administrative investigation.
