How/Why:

A deputy on routine patrol in Redington Beach noticed a fire at a Redington Beach restaurant and assisted in evacuating guests from adjacent motel. The deputy noticed the fire at about 1:48 a.m. on October 31, 2009 at the Parmigiano Ristorante Italiano located at 17001 Gulf Boulevard in Redington Beach.

As he was on patrol, Deputy Dennis Garvey noticed an odor of smoke. He continued his patrol and located the source of the odor coming from the restaurant. He further noticed smoked heavily emitting from the kitchen area of the restaurant which shares the building with the Malibu Resort Motel.

After requesting the fire department to respond, Deputy Garvey and Corporal Brant Bickford evacuated approximately 30 guests from the motel and assisted in securing the scene while firefighters from Pinellas Suncoast, Madeira Beach and Seminole Fire Departments extinguished the fire.

The owner of the restaurant Carino Nouri told deputies he had secured the restaurant and left the business at about 10:30 p.m. on October 30, noting nothing out of the ordinary.

No injuries were reported.

The building suffered extensive damage to the interior.

The fire does not appear to be suspicious in nature.

The investigation continues.
