What: Sheriff's deputies arrested two teens on auto theft charges after the two crashed the stolen vehicle they were driving into a utility pole. No one was hurt. The vehicle was stolen out of the City of St. Petersburg.
Where: Deputies first observed the vehicle at 42nd Avenue and 43rd Street North. The vehicle struck a utility pole at 42nd Avenue and 35th Street North.
When: The incident occurred just before 9:00 p.m. Sunday night, October 25, 2009.
How/Why: While on routine patrol, sheriff's deputies observed a red, Dodge Caravan in the vicinity of 42nd Avenue North and 43rd Street. Deputies had information that the vehicle had been reported stolen to St. Petersburg Police. As a deputy sheriff attempted to stop the van, the vehicle sped away, and within a few blocks struck a utility pole.
Two of the three vehicle occupants were arrested. No one was hurt.
The investigation continues.
