What:  Investigators say the fire was not intentionally set. They are still working on the cause. The fire started in apartment #18, in the kitchen area.  

Just before 6:00 a.m., Friday, October 23, 2009, a fire erupted in the Florian Building in the Town Apartments complex. The 19 unit building is located at 5855 18th Street North. All occupants escaped without injury. The Pinellas County Sheriff's Arson & Auto Theft detectives and the State Fire Marshal's Office are investigating the cause and origin of the fire.

Where:  The location of the fire is the Florian Building located in the Town Apartments complex at  5855 18th Street North. Investigators say the fire started in Apartment #18.

When:  The fire was reported at about 5:50 a.m., Friday morning, October 23, 2009.

How/Why:  

Over 30 individual fire units from at least six Pinellas area fire departments responded to the three alarm blaze at the Town Apartments complex.

The cause and origin of the fire is being investigated by the Pinellas County Sheriff's Arson & Auto Theft Unit and the State Fire Marshal's Office. So far they have determined that the fire was not intentionally set. The fire started in Apartment #18 on the second floor of the complex, in the kitchen area. The apartment was unoccupied as the owner lives in Canada.

All current occupants escaped without serious injury. The building itself was severely damaged.

The investigation continues.
