How/Why: Deputies have shot and wounded a pit-bull after the animal charged a neighbor and two deputies.
Deputies responded at about 2:05 p.m. on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 to a private residence located at 1220 Cedar St., Safety Harbor. Deputies met with the complainant Tanell Johnson who reported that she was chased by a pit-bull. Johnson pointed deputies to 681 12th Av., Safety Harbor, where she last saw the dog.
As the deputies approached the residence to locate the dog and identify the owner, the dog charged Deputies Warren Fisher and John Long. Both deputies discharged their agency firearms striking and wounding the dog. The dog whose name is “KK”, a 2 and one- half year old pit-bull mix, was wounded in the neck area. Deputies say the dog then ran back into the residence.
Concerned for the injured dog, deputies called Animal Control to respond. However, the owner of the dog, Amelia Horne, decided to take the dog for treatment on her own to a private veterinarian. Horne blamed herself for the dog’s behavior. She stated that when she opened her back door the dog ran out and she could not get her to come back inside.
The investigation continues. |
