Release Number:  09-251

Who:
Deceased:

Charles Collins Higgins
DOB: 6/23/61
Address: 295 110th Ave. Apt. 10
Treasure Island

What:  A 48 year old male subject was found floating face down in a hot tub at a South Pasadena home just before midnight, October 11, 2009. The man has been identified as Charles Collins Higgins of Treasure Island. Higgins was a guest of the residents, who called fire rescue for assistance. The man was transported to Palms of Pasadena Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

Where:  The residence is located at 6760 West Flamingo Way South, in South Pasadena.

When:  The deceased was found floating in the hot tub just before midnight, Sunday, October 11, 2009.

How/Why:

According to deputies, the home is occupied by three male roommates. One of the roommates, identified as Gerald W. Ward, DOB 9/14/83, and his girlfriend had spent the evening watching football with the Charles Higgins, who was an acquaintance, at a Treasure Island bar. Higgins had reportedly been there most of the day watching football and had been drinking.

Ward invited Higgins back to the South Pasadena residence, where the group sat in the hot tub. Ward advised that at one point Higgins was in the hot tub alone for about 30 minutes, and when Ward went to check on him, Higgins was floating face down. Ward and the roommates called 911 and worked to revive him. Fire rescue responded and transported Higgins to Palms of Pasadena Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation continues.
