How/Why: Deputies were called to assist the SPCA in the removal of 25 live cats and one dead cat from an Indian Rocks Beach Apartment. Deputies responded to a private residence located at 2305 1st Street Apartment A in Indian Rocks Beach at about 4:55 p.m. on Tuesday, September 29, 2009.
According to deputies, the SPCA requested the Sheriff's Office assistance after they received information about the cats living in deplorable conditions.
Deputies say the cats had used the entire home as their a litter box.
A total of 25 live cats were removed from the home. The SPCA took custody of the animals which were reportedly well fed and in good health. One dead cat was also located inside the home and removed.
The owner of the animals was identified as 63-year-old James Zimmer. He has been asked to vacate the residence as City of Indian Rocks Beach officials have declared the apartment a health hazard and therefore uninhabitable.
No criminal charges have been filed. |
