What: Joshua Dean West was arrested in connection with the April 2009 vehicle vs. pedestrian crash that injured Andrew Hall.
West was transported to the Pinellas County Jail from the Putnam Correctional Institute, where he was being held on a VOP.
Where: The suspect is being held at the Pinellas County Jail.
The crash scene extended for almost a mile on Main Street in Safety Harbor, just east of the McMullen Booth intersection.
When: West was transported to the Pinellas County Jail on Tuesday, September 22, 2009.
The vehicle vs. pedestrian crash occurred just after 1:00 a.m. on April 20, 2009.
How/Why: Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team have procured and executed warrants for the arrest of Joshua Dean West in connection with the vehicle vs. pedestrian crash that severely injured Andrew Hall.
24-year-old West was transported to the Pinellas County Jail on Tuesday September 22, 2009 from the Putnam Correctional Institute, where he had been held since June on a Hillsborough County VOP.
West was arrested for DUI causing serious bodily injury; leaving the scene of a crash with injury or death; and for no valid driver’s license causing serious bodily injury. All the charges are felonies.
The vehicle vs. pedestrian crash occurred just after 1:00 a.m. on April 20, 2009. The crash occurred on Main Street in Safety Harbor, just east of the McMullen Booth intersection.
The Sheriff's Major Accident Investigation Team responded to the scene and began its investigation.
According to deputies, a vehicle traveling eastbound on Main Street, driven by West, crossed McMullen Booth and continued towards Safety Harbor. The vehicle swerved onto the sidewalk on the south side, knocking over utility poles, mailboxes and striking a pedestrian, identified as Andrew Scott Hall, who was standing on the sidewalk.
After striking Hall, the vehicle then struck a pole and some trees before coming to rest in the woods on the south side of the road. The crash scene was almost a quarter mile in length.
Hall remains hospitalized with severe injuries. (For Further Information See Press Release # 09-085).
